Washington University Danforth Campus, in collaboration with the Saint Louis County Department of Health, will participate in the Strategic National Stockpile exercise on March 18. This exercise will enable the University to practice dispensing of preventive medications to its faculty, staff and students by operating a Point of Dispensing (POD) site. Volunteers are needed to pose as patients during the exercise.
The federal government, in partnership with state and local governments, has established the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). The purpose of this program is to collect and distribute medicine and medical supplies to the American public if there is a public health emergency such as a terrorist attack, flu outbreak or earthquake severe enough to deplete local supplies. Once Federal and local authorities agree that the SNS is needed, medicines and supplies will be delivered to any state in the U.S. within 12 hours.
St. Louis County Department of Health will participate in a full-scale Strategic Stockpile exercise on March 18, 2008. This exercise will test the capability of St. Louis County Department of Health and its partners to deliver life-saving preventive medications to the St. Louis County population in a variety of ways.
Participants that volunteer their time and complete the drill will be able to enter their name in a drawing to win 1 of 3 prizes: An Apple iPod Shuffle, a CREATIVE ZEN V Plus digital player or a SanDisk Sansa Clip digital player.
All participants and volunteers must bring a valid WU Student/Faculty/Staff ID.
